"Most parents don't realize there are great strategies and
assistance for raising their teens and pre-teens. Coaching is
a fabulous way to get access to the best thinking in the field
of parenting. The right coach will help parents understand
that a non-judgmental, unconditional parenting approach is
the most powerful way to have influence on their teens,
which is what parents want.
"Knowing when to coach the child is crucial in establishing
rapport. As a mother and a coach, how do I know it? It is the
moment when the child asks a question, this is when there is
increased awareness of self. Increased awareness of self
leads to increased self responsibility of one's thought, speech,
actions."
"One of the biggest issues I have seen between parents and
teens is a lack of meaningful and effective communication.
Teens are more likely to engage in communication if they
feel we are listenting to them."
When asked, "Give me one good listening technique",
Isabelle responded: "Close your mouth and open your ears.
Say nothing, listen." They (teen) want us to listen. So many
times we want to jump in and fix everything and they don't
want us to do that.
